Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a 1968 children's musical film set in England during the 1910s. Caractacus Potts (Dick Van Dyke) is an eccentric inventor who lives with his two children, Jeremy (Adrian Hall) and Jemima (Heather Ripley), and his peculiar father (Lionel Jeffries). Caractacus meets Truly Scrumptious (Sally Ann Howes), a beautiful upper-class woman, when she brings the children home after she finds them skipping school. Truly is impressed with Caractacus' inventions, but when she lectures him on child-rearing, he quickly becomes offended.

The children turn their father's attention to a wrecked Grand Prix motorcar that is about to be sold to the local junkman. Caractacus joins a song-and-dance act to raise the money for the car.

He rebuilds the car and names it Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Caractacus, the children and Truly begin an adventure of unexpected dangers with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang there to rescue them each time.
