Virtua Tennis always felt to me like the original Grid did for racing games, finding just the right balance between arcade action and realism to make a really fun game. It was as approachable as an arcade tennis game (think Nintendo) while offering just enough depth and complexity to keep you entertained for more than 15 minutes. But maybe that's just a matter of personal preference and I know that there are many people who really relish realism and simulation in their games - when it comes to sports games, I'm not one of them.
Nobody knows. GfWL has essentially been abandoned for the better half of a decade and officially discontinued for roughly two years. Microsoft is making no more money off of it and is under little to no obligation to keep the servers running indefinitely. The service is dead and they will eventually switch the lights off, at this point nobody knows if that will be two months from now or two decades but there is no scenario where they will remain online forever. For the games that haven't made the switch to a different online service (quite a few switched to Steam) there appears to be no plans for uninterrupted or continued service.
This game requires online activation via GfWL and doesn't just use it for multiplayer, it also uses it for DRM. Once the GfWL servers go dark, this game can no longer be installed and activated.
